Now that VisualHub has ceased development, we needed a solution to convert all of our video files to various different formats. For example, converting the files to work with your TiVo, AppleTV or iPhone. Up until now, HandBrake has always just ripped your DVDs into MPEG video files for playing back on an iPod or archiving on your network. But now in version 0.9.3 release it will take any video file as an input source, no longer just DVDs.

Keep in ind that it no longer decoded DVDs, but that isn’t really an issue if you have VLC installed on your Mac. Handbreak will just use VLC’s DVD decoder.
